The Earth Day. A little bit more about sustainability.

I am sure, that not everyone is familiar with Earth Day. Started in the USA in the 1970s, the first environmental activists were concerned about the wide use of cars and how it was affected public health.

“Earth Day 1970 gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet —

In the decades leading up to the first Earth Day, Americans were consuming vast amounts of leaded gas through massive and inefficient automobiles. Industry belched out smoke and sludge with little fear of the consequences from either the law or bad press. Air pollution was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity. Until this point, mainstream America remained largely oblivious to environmental concerns and how a polluted environment threatens human health.

However, the stage was set for change with the publication of Rachel Carson’s New York Times bestseller Silent Spring in 1962. The book represented a watershed moment, selling more than 500,000 copies in 24 countries as it raised public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and the inextricable links between pollution and public health.”

The activity itself was transformed into a global movement involving people around the globe who wanted our planet to be a better place to live for future generations. Unfortunately, environmentalism has another side, so-called “greenwashing”.

If you go shopping and pick up some grocery or any other staff, you may see green labels or “eco-friendly” brand mark which is claimed by the producer but in reality, it is not true. More and more manufacturers are claiming their products to be environmentally friendly, simply making green labels on the package. The truth is, consumers, do believe them and buy such goods to support eco-movements.

Our company, PJP Eye LTD was invited to the Earth Day event as a panellist participant to discuss the issue and bring a speech regarding greenwashing on the agenda. We are very serious about the education of the people and bringing the true concept of sustainability.

Sustainability means not only eco-friendly activities. It means a new ecosystem based on a new type of economy. Unfortunately, the level of investment in such green projects is still low, but we hope that it will rise in the future.

The value of the sustainability concept itself derives from the human rights protection and small businesses support. We strongly believe that this new type of economy will help to develop new business models based on a true sustainability idea.

PJP Eye with Indigogo launched a new campaign, aiming to support our product, i.e. power storage. We have different sizes and density from a portable device to a mega-solar plant. We are trying to bring a new solution providing cheap access to electricity, empowering local communities and decreasing the dependency on the transnationals.

I think this step made by our team can be a new stage for sustainable development worldwide. We stress out in our activities that education and empowerment of people are the keys to economical success and environmental protection.
